As the President of the Hagersville Chamber of Commerce for 10 years, Phillips has been a long-time supporter of local businesses. When a business opens in Haldimand, he does all he can to support them. He’s been a big part of creating a community that takes pride in helping each other out.
When Maclean’s Magazine named Haldimand County one of the best places to live in Canada, Phillips was thrilled. He knows people are attracted to Haldimand by its beautiful scenery, such as Grand River, and the low cost of housing relative to more-urban areas. He feels with the recognition from national press, will only attract more.
Phillips does all he can to help out in the community. In addition to the Chamber of Commerce, he’s treasurer of the Hagersville
Business Improvement Area, which works to promote Hagersville and improve, beautify, and maintain it. He’s also involved in
happenings that add to Hagersville’s appeal, such as the Santa Claus Parade and events such as Hagersville Rocks, a large outdoor music concert which he helped to establish.
Phillips was born and raised in Hagersville. He moved away for college but returned as soon as he graduated because of the same reasons people and companies are moving into the community now. Not only did he love Haldimand’s high quality of life; he could see its potential.
