Fire safety education is one of the most important aspects of fire prevention in Haldimand County. Learn more about fire safety education programs for children and adults, fire safety tips, how to comply with the Open Air Burn Bylaw and how The Arson Prevention Program for Children (TAPP-C) can help youth involved in firesetting behaviours.
To request a Fire Safety Education Program for your class or group, please complete the attached form and forward to the Fire Prevention Bureau where your request will be processed. Please give as much notice as possible.
Haldimand County is involved in the program “Adventures of Sparky the Fire Dog”. This program was present in nearly all Elementary schools and allowed grade one students time with Sparky the Fire Dog. Each student had the opportunity to take Sparky home, complete the fire and home safety checklist with their family and record the experience through pictures, drawing and writing. Our educators returned to the schools upon completion of the program to review the scrapbook with the students, talk about fire and home safety and show off their gear and trucks.
For more information on this initiative please contact the office at (905) 318-5932, ext. 6227 or by email at rgeerdink@haldimandcounty.on.ca.
Open Air Burning
Open air burning is only allowed in Haldimand County under the provisions contained in the Open-Air Burn Bylaw. Please review the bylaw to ensure compliance prior to beginning your burn.
The Arson Fire Prevention Program for Children (TAPP-C)
The Arson Prevention Program for Children (TAPP-C) works to prevent firesetting behaviour in children and youth. In this program, the Fire Services of Haldimand, the Fire Services of Norfolk and REACH mental health clinicians work with children, youth and their families to assess, educate and develop a plan to prevent further firesetting behaviour in children and youth.
If you suspect your child or youth could be involved in fire-related behaviours, visit Haldimand-Norfolk REACH‘s website.
