The Fire Prevention Bureau is comprised of two Fire Prevention Officers, some Public Fire and Life Safety Educators situated strategically across Haldimand County and one clerical staff member.
The normal working hours of the Fire Prevention Bureau are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. There is always an “on-call” officer available 24 hours a day year-round to handle fire investigations or emergencies.
Fire Prevention Officers conduct regular fire safety inspections of all types of occupancies as deemed by the Ontario Building Code. These inspections are carried out under the provisions of the Ontario Fire Code/Fire Protection and Prevention Act.
The Fire Prevention Officer carries out investigations of incendiary fires, explosions, and fire fatalities. They respond to and resolve citizen complaints regarding fire safety concerns and are very active in public education.
The Fire Prevention Bureau also provides support for the in-service smoke alarm and carbon monoxide alarm program that is being performed by suppression crews across Haldimand County.

The implementation of a Fire Safety Plan helps to assure effective utilization of Life Safety features in a building, to protect people from fire. The required Fire Safety Plan should be designed to suit the resources of each individual building or complex of buildings.
Fire Safety Plans are intended to assist the owner of a building with the basic essentials for the safety of all occupants. They are also designed to ensure an orderly evacuation at the time of an emergency and to provide a maximum degree of flexibility to achieve the necessary Fire Safety for the building.
