Dunnville Farmers Market opening for curbside pickup May 30

The Dunnville Farmers Market’s Executive Board of Directors, in consultation with County and Health Unit officials, has developed a 2-phase approach for re-opening the market. A number of public health and safety protocols have been established to ensure the safety of vendors and the community, and as of May 30, the market will open for curbside pickup service on Saturdays only.

Placing an order for curbside pickup

During phase 1, customers will be able to place orders online via www.dunnvillefarmersmarket.ca between Monday morning at 8am and Thursday evening at 5pm. Vendors will follow-up with customers who have placed orders by Friday to confirm their order and provide their designated pickup time.

Picking up an order

On pickup day (Saturday), customers will be required to pull up to the main doorway to receive parking instructions. Once they have parked as directed, pre-paid customers will be asked to open their trunk or back door, and the vendor will deposit the goods in their vehicle. Walk-up customers are asked to visit the main doorway for pickup while keeping 2m apart from others.

Payment

Customers who wish to pay cash or use electronic point-of-pay at the time of pickup (e.g. debit) will be able to do so. Customers paying cash will need to have exact change ready in an envelope with the vendor’s name on it. Vendors will not be making change.

In between all interactions, vendors will be performing strict sanitization processes that align with provincial public health guidelines.

“Food safety has always been a top priority for us and it is even more so now in light of the current pandemic,” said James Richardson, President of the Dunnville Farmers Market Executive Board of Directors. “I appreciate the dedication of all executive members that have worked hard to develop our re-opening plan, as well as the guidance provided by Haldimand County and the Health Unit. We’ll continue working to provide safe access to healthy, local foods and look forward to seeing our loyal customers once again,” Richardson added.

Haldimand County Mayor Ken Hewitt continues to urge the community to support local businesses. “I am thrilled to hear that the Farmers Market is re-opening and it is very welcome news for many,” Hewitt said. “I’m proud of the local business community’s response to these challenging circumstances and encourage everyone to keep supporting our farmers and independent businesses who are the backbone of our local economy.”

New Dunnville Farmers Market Opens This Saturday; Caledonia And Hagersville Markets To Open In May

Warmer weather is on the horizon and Haldimand County’s three farmers markets will soon be open for business. The newly constructed Dunnville Farmers Market will be the first to open for the season this Saturday, April 6.

Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to explore the market for locally grown root crops, apples, greenhouse produce as well as maple syrup, preserves and specialty products like homemade butter tarts and prepared foods.

“Shopping locally means that dollars spent at farmers markets stay within the community – supporting local producers and creating jobs for residents,” noted Lidy Romanuk, Haldimand County’s Manager of Economic Development & Tourism. “The markets are also a fantastic opportunity to learn about how food is grown and connect with friends, family and neighbours,” she added.

After this Saturday, the Dunnville Farmers Market – located at 120 Market Street – will continue to operate every Saturday from (7am to 12pm) until the end of the year. Starting later this spring (date TBD), it will also be open every Tuesday.

The Caledonia Farmers Market will open Thursday, May 16 and will operate every Thursday from 3pm to 7pm in the Canadian Tire parking Lot at 365 Argyle Street South.

The Hagersville Farmers Market is set to open officially on Wednesday, May 15; it will operate every Wednesday from 7am to 12pm in Market Square, behind the Post Office at 22 King Street East.

Grand Opening Celebration Planned For Dunnville Farmers Market And Waterfront Park

Haldimand County is pleased to announce that the highly anticipated Dunnville Waterfront Park and Farmers Market pavilion projects are now complete and open to the public.

Haldimand County and the Dunnville Farmers Market Association invite all residents to attend the grand opening celebration for the new Dunnville Farmers Market and Waterfront Park on Saturday, September 29, 2018.

The celebration will take place from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. at 218 Main Street East, Dunnville and include speeches, a ribbon cutting ceremony and dedication of a 140 year old heritage tree located in the park. Refreshments will be provided and vendors will be onsite with locally grown produce for purchase.

The Market will be open from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm on with activities for kids as well as entertainment.

The new market creates a space in Dunnville where shoppers and families can connect with local farmers and learn where their food comes from.

“After several years of community stakeholder input and involvement, the transformation of these riverfront lands has come to fruition with the $1.8 million dollar construction of the Dunnville Waterfront Park and Market Pavilion,” explained Mayor Ken Hewitt. “The market building is a great multi-use structure that will facilitate additional events and activities. This increased usage generates the potential for long-term economic benefits,” he added. “The use of the old arena lands to create the 1.5 acre Waterfront Park enhances the downtown with a beautiful riverside asset that includes walkways, park benches, lighting and landscaping that will be enjoyed by residents and visitors for years to come,” he concluded.

The Dunnville Farmers Market is open on Tuesday and Saturday mornings from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. until Saturday, December 22nd.
